How to wear a leather jacket
A classic motorcycle jacket is absolutely essential to your transitional-weather wardrobe. You can wear it all through spring and then rock it again come fall. Need some tips on how to wear a leather jacket? Try this advice, inspired by the spring 2015 runways and some of our favourite fashionable people on the internet. Note that all of these tips obviously apply to vegan-leather jackets, too!
Do the drape
Here’s an instant way to look like a fashion insider: drape your jacket over your shoulders instead of putting your arms through the sleeves. You can do this with any jacket, but it looks especially cool with a motorcycle jacket, as Lookbook.nu user Shelby Skye Anne demonstrates here.
Play with contrast
Leather jackets are such a bad-girl classic that you could easily vamp yours up by pairing it with a mini skirt and rock concert tee. Or you could do something a bit less intuitive and pair it with a good-girl collared dress, as seen at Saint Laurent. (The metallic turban’s optional).
Rock it with your basics
A great leather jacket is such a classic piece, and it pairs extremely well with other chic basics like a striped shirt (may we recommend our Nuit Blanche Top in White?) and a great pair of jeans, as seen here on American blogger Britnie Harlow. Your leather jacket adds a little oomph to a simple outfit without pulling all of the attention away from the other pieces.
Go black on black
Black looks pretty great with any colour, but an all-black outfit, like this one seen on German blogger Schwarzer Samt, makes an especially profound impact. A leather jacket makes black-on-black even edgier. You’re basically Joan Jett!
Try touches of leather instead
Not into the whole motorcycle-jacket look? You can still wear this trend! Try a jacket with leather detailing, like this jacket at Michael Kors.
Leather and fur pair perfectly together
Don’t worry, PETA types! This rule also applies to the faux versions. Basically, the contrast between the slight sheen of the leather and the fuzziness of the fur just totally works. Bonus point if both pieces are in the same colour, like this in this look on Lithuanian blogger Emilija Vaišnoraitė.
Okay, so we’ve established that you basically NEED a leather jacket you can wear a million different ways. Try our classic Michelle Jacket in Black. It features quilting at the shoulders and a great oversized lapel.
