ICYMI: Five things we loved this week
Below are five moments of fashion from across the internet that we loved this week.
Fashion goes literary: The shining star of too-cool-for-school label Céline’s latest ad campaign isn’t another 16-year-old model. It’s legendary American writer Joan Didion, age 80. In the ad, Didion exudes cool in oversized black sunglasses. The campaign also stars model Freya Lawrence and dancer Marie-Agnes Gillot. If you weren’t already obsessed with Céline, now you have reason to be.
Shoe cool for words: This week, the fashion-savvy folks at Refinery29 took us on a beautifully illustrated tour through the history of platform shoes. Yes, they were invented long before the Spice Girls rocked them! The clunky shoes made their first noted debut in 220 B.C., when Greek actors wore them onstage.
Girl crush: This week on the Pink Martini blog, we shared our love of (okay, obsession with) Harry Potter star Emma Watson’s killer style. You won’t believe what she wears to the airport!
Like, fur real: Sure, maybe the only fur you rock right now is on the hood of your parka, but you’ll be clamouring to add a fur (or faux fur) bag to your closet after you see this street style slideshow from Style.com. From oversized furry clutches to a fuzzy handbag with leather detail, “is that a purse she’s holding or a dog” is the new cool.
Rad dads: Can you guess the latest fashion thing taking Instagram by storm? We’ll give you few clues: New Balances. Relaxed fit jeans. White socks. No, it’s not normcore – it’s dad style! Satirical Instagram account @fashiondads_ posts photos of normal dads in their fave duds, spouting sartorial wisdom like “You can wear literally anything with swishy pants and you will look fit and fabulous!!”
