Jennifer Pistor, the blogger behind Prairie Girl in the City, is known for her gorgeous yet accessible style (and her amazing mane of red hair). Like your cool best friend, she mixes trendy pieces from fast-fashion stores with pricier staples from designer labels. We chatted with her about the inspiration behind her popular fashion blog, her personal style, and, of course, her fave Pink Martini pieces!
Pink Martini: What made you decide to start a blog?
Jennifer Pistor: My husband! It was his idea for me to share all the things I love to talk to my friends about: fashion, style advice, and shopping.
PM: What would you say sets your blog apart from the rest?
JP: I provide an approachable take on style and fashion. My blog is for the every-woman. A woman who has a full and busy life, has a budget, likely a mom and career women, and wants some help with elevating her day to day style.
PM: Who do you think are the three most fashionable celebrities, current or past?
JP: Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana, Sarah Jessica Parker
PM: What movies or TV shows inspire your sense of style?
JP: New Girl, Sex and the City, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
PM: Which blogs do you read?
JP: Cupcakes and Cashmere, Girl with Curves, Jillian Harris
PM: How would you describe your personal style?
JP: I always describe my style as dressed-up casual. As a mom, I gravitate towards easy, comfortable pieces that I can mix and match to create different looks. I definitely also dress for my mood. Some days you’ll find me in a tulle skirt and other days I’m in jeans and a sweater.
PM: What’s your number one style commandment?
JP: Accessorize! Accessories can not only add more interest to an outfit, but they also can show off your personality.
PM: Which spring trend are you most excited to wear?
JP: I’m really loving the soft, almost kimono-style trenches. I’ve already picked up a cute neutral coloured one from Topshop. I’m also really drawn to all the blue and white happening this season. It’s so fresh and springy!
PM: Which three Pink Martini pieces would you recommend to our readers?
The Nathalia Dress is perfection! You can never go wrong with a perfect little striped dress. The Studio 54 Skirt is such a versatile piece. It could take you from work, to dinner out, even to the beach this summer, paired with flip-flops. The Greta Dress is another favourite. Spring should be all about flirty dresses. It is the easiest way to get dressed. Just accessorize and go!
