What is your job role/title?
I am the Creative Director of Stylehog.com; a Stylist for the Oh So Cosmo Show, W Network, CMT, and YTV as well as Hello! Magazine.
2. How did you get involved in fashion?
I was studying business at the University of Western Ontario and didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. I knew I didn’t want to be stuck at a desk all day and I knew I wanted to do something I was passionate about so I decided to find a job that would combine both business and fashion. After graduation, I did an internship at Jones Apparel Group and was hired on full time. It was my first job in the industry and I was so excited!
3. Describe your personal style:
I’m a really big fan of classic styles. I love white blouses, wool pants and silk tops. But I like to mix these classic pieces with trendy items so I turn to my shoes, jackets and jewellery as a way to inject a bit more style. My favourite thing to buy is coats and jackets – I love collecting them. Your coat is the first thing people notice on you so it better be stylish!
Shoe Designer? : Alexander McQueen – I have a pair of nude Alexander McQueen pumps with a croc heel those are shockingly comfortable.
Restaurant? : La Palette on Queen West. Amazing French food in an amazing environment.
Coffee Shop? I don’t drink coffee but if I had to choose a great café to have a meeting at I like La Merceria. It’s an Argentinian cafe near my apartment and they have delicious hot chocolate and yummy treats!
Movie? Father of the Bride – Steve Martin is my hero :)
Book? A Fine Balance by Canadian writer Rohinton Mistry – I couldn’t put it down and I kept thinking about it long after I finished reading it.
Day of the week? Saturday! I like that I get to sleep in but still be active in the daytime and night time.
Guilty Pleasure? Gum balls. I love them but don’t tell my dentist!
5. Why do you love your job? Any ‘pet-peeves’ in the fashion industry?
I love the seasonal nature of fashion. You can never get tired of something because we’re always moving on to the next thing. It’s never boring!
My pet-peeve is people thinking you have to spend a lot of money to have style or to be fashionable or that they have to stick to designer labels.
Money does not buy taste and there are so many amazing, affordable fashions out there that people should be trying on! Want proof? Check out Stylehog.com - we focus exclusively on runway fashion on a budget. Great style does not need a giant pay check.
6. What inspires you/Who inspires you?
I’m inspired by hard-workers both in the fashion industry and beyond – people who put their blood, sweat and tears into whatever they are passionate about. I’m a firm believer that if you work hard and are passionate about what you are doing, you will be successful. When I learn about someone’s success, it makes me want to work harder to reach my goals.
7. If you could give our readers your top personal fashion tip-what would it be?
Try it on! I think so many women see styles in the stores, in the magazines and on their favorite celebs but they don’t think those same styles would work for them. I say, give it a try! Bring it into the fitting room and try it on before you discard it and say it’s not for you.
You never know!
8. What draws you to Pink Martini Collection as a label?
I’m in love with all the vintage details that you find in Pink Martini clothes – the buttons, the pleats and the girly girl styles. I also love how the dresses are made of silk – I can never say no to silk! Thanks!!!!
