The 10 best red carpet looks of 2014
It was a year of flowers, white gowns and so many crop tops. Below, we count down the best red carpet looks of 2014.
10. Chloe Grace Moretz at the VMAs
A lot of fashion critics panned this Louis Vuitton outfit, but we love that Chloe went for something a bit different and didn’t feel pressured to be just another starlet in a safe, uncontroversial dress. We think this ensemble’s totally sweet.
9. Blake Lively at the CFDA Awards
Competition to look the best is fierce at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards, but Blake was the belle of the ball in Michael Kors. She looks like a sixties starlet in this mod gold mini with a scalloped hem. Her teased hair and bold lashes complete the look.
8. Keira Knightley at the Hollywood Film Awards
Keira always does red carpets right. Her style’s never too dull or too crazy. This dress by Giambattista Valli is the perfect example of the actress’s elegant but fashion forward style. We love the pretty branch design on this dress’s top.
7. Elizabeth Banks at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards
Elizabeth Banks’ style is so cutting edge that the Michael Kors dress she wore to this October awards show is actually from next season. This fit-and-flare dress is adorably retro, and we love that she kept her hair and makeup simple, allowing the dress to take centre stage.
6. Emma Stone at the Costume Institute Gala
We love the way the colours of this Thakoon top and skirt and Emma’s side-braided red hair pair together. Her bronzey makeup makes her look like the queen of summer.
5. Taylor Swift at the Teen Choice Awards
Yes, another crop top! (We can’t help it, we’re obsessed). No one makes a crop top look classy quite like Taylor. We love this tweedy cropped bustier with matching A-line skirt from Novis NYC. The outfit’s pulled together by her red lips and yellow heels.
4. Katherine McNamara at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Banquet
Admittedly, we weren’t totally sure who Katherine was when we first saw this picture (After some light Googling, we still don’t really know? She’s like a Disney Channel star or something?) but we knew that we loved her Ted Baker London dress. The combination of the floral print and black accents looks sweet with a little edge.
3. Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars
Of course we had to add this dress to the list. Like basically everyone else, we agree that it was the prettiest dress at the Oscars. This pastel-blue custom Prada gown looks great with Lupita’s skin tone and the deep V neckline flatters her chest.
2. Sarah Hyland at the Emmy Awards
You know Bianca’s prom dress in 10 Things I Hate About You? (If you haven’t seen that movie, there’s something wrong with you. Go watch it now; you can finish reading this list later.) This is the 21st century version. Sarah looks stunning in this Christian Siriano crop top (2014 was seriously the year of crop tops) and flowing skirt. And her thick brows are so on point.
1. Nicole Kidman at the CMA Awards
Nicole looks absolutely breathtaking in next season’s Roberto Cavalli. It looks as though it was made out of some beautiful antique piece of lace, and its charming folksiness seems to be a nod to the fact that she’s at the Country Music Association’s award show.
Wow at the glamorous events in your life (yes, your little cousin’s bat mitzvah counts) in one of the red-carpet ready dresses from Pink Martini Collection’s holiday line. For instance, you could totally hold your own, fashion-wise, against any of the superstars above in our celeb-worthy Rumba Dress in Burgundy. It shows off your bod with playful lace cut-outs while its midi length keeps you looking classy.
