What to wear on a first date
First dates can be a tricky occasion to dress for. You want to look like you put in an effort without looking like you’re trying too hard, and you want to show a little personality without scaring him off with your crazy wardrobe. Here are three simple outfit formulas that will demonstrate what to wear on a first date.
Casual option: Patterned tee + playful shorts
This look is perfect for a bike ride, throwing a ball around in the park or seeing a movie. A tee with a classic pattern, like our Heidi Top, shows a little personality, while playful shorts (our Weekend Escape Shorts have tiny polka dots – yes, you can wear spots with stripes!) show off your sporty side – not to mention your legs. A long-sleeved tee balances out the shorter shorts.
Semi-formal option: Retro dress
A vintage-inspired dress like our Naomi Dress is flirty and girly, perfect for a dinner date. Choose one that cinches your waist and shows just the tiniest hint of cleavage. A retro dress paired with long, flowing hair and some sweet ballet flats is practically a guarantee that you’ll get a second date.
Wild card option: Flattering top + skater skirt
Don’t know where you’re going for your date? This sure-thing outfit will work for basically any occasion. A retro top with a flattering V-neck, like our Hello Sailor Top, will make your body look amazing without being inappropriate for a first date. Our flirty Kayleigh Skirt shows a little bit of leg while still being relatively demure.
And remember to bring a stash of breath mints – if you’re looking to get kissed, you (or he!!!) might need them. ;)
