Every girl of a certain age can admit to having been an Olsen twins fan. Those of us who’ve stayed in the loop still are. If you haven’t kept up with Ashley Olsen for the last few years, you’d be forgiven for thinking she was still in her sloppy hobo-chic phase, or worse, still wearing cutesy matching outfits with twin Mary-Kate. But Ashley is now a 28-year-old woman with the grown-up fashion sense to prove it. With Mary-Kate, she designs fashion lines The Row and Elizabeth and James, and her personal style is always on point. Her outfits are classically elegant with a fashion-forward twist.
Below are our five fave Ashley outfits of all time:
1. Costume Institute Gala, May 2011
It takes a true sense of style to not be overwhelmed by this vintage Christian Dior dress. Ashley pulls it off by wearing it with minimal hair and makeup (a classic chignon, blush and bold brows is all it takes) and classic accessories.
2. The J. Mendel show at Fall 2012 New York Fashion Week
Ashley looks like the total boss lady she is in a sleek, all-black look (she’s the one on the left). We love the pants’ cropped length and the subtle detail on those heels.
3. Costume Institute Gala, May 2014
Ashley’s (she’s on the left) Ferre gown looks like it belongs in the 19th century, in the best way possible. But we also love how she modernizes it slightly with a sleek ponytail.
4. CFDA Awards, June 2014
Ashley (left) is wearing one of her own designs for The Row. We love how she makes this simple black dress her own by pairing it with kitten heels and bold jewelry – those green earrings are to die for!
5. Trademark store opening, New York, September 2014
Ashley (right) is the picture of laidback sophistication in a black maxi dress (Or top and skirt? We can’t really tell!), flat Birkenstock-style sandals, a simple necklace, a grey cardigan and a reptile-skin bag. We’d wear this look everywhere!
The Olsens’ clothing line The Row began with the search for the perfect T-shirt. So it’s only appropriate to emulate Ashley by rocking our Olsen Top in Black, which really might be the perfect tee.
