Woman Crush Wednesday: Chloe Sevigny
Former Sassy magazine intern Chloe Sevigny first began to gain mainstream notoriety when she was profiled in The New Yorker in 1994, at age 19, shortly after being cast in the controversial film Kids. Writer Jay McInerney called her “the coolest girl in the world.” Throughout the rest of the nineties, she continued to gain acclaim as fashion’s quirkiest it-girl. She won the VH1 Vogue Fashion Award for best female celebrity style in 2000, and she remains a style star to this day. As Marc Jacobs once said of her, “she stands out in a sea of often clichéd looking actresses.”
The too-cool-for-school actress and Miu Miu muse now designs her own clothing line for Opening Ceremony, called Chloe Sevigny for O.C. We love her eclectic, thrift store-chic style. She pairs together quirky items that you wouldn’t think would work, and somehow makes them look jaw-droppingly glamorous. Chloe, we think you’re still the coolest girl in the world!
1. At the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic, May 2009
Of course this is what Chloe would wear to a polo match. She’s putting her own offbeat spin on prim and proper. Details we love: the flowers on the hat, the scalloped hem of the skirt and that perfect orangey lipstick.
2. In New York City, January 2013
In this photo, Chloe’s walking proof that all it takes to make a simple outfit turn heads is a trendy topper. Bonus: the furry coat looks super-cozy.
3. At the Orange is New Black New York premiere, June 2013
Only Chloe could make what appears to be a skort look totally hip. By keeping the top and accessories simple (how great are those white brogues?) she lets the bold-patterned skort take centre stage.
4. At the screening of The Wait in February 2014
Apparently Chloe was in love with Little House on the Prairie as a kid, to the point where she wore calico dresses every day. This vintage-inspired dress puts a trendy twist on that childhood obsession.
5. In New York City, July 2014
Call it middle-aged tourist chic. Chloe manages to make this outfit, which wouldn’t be out of place on your Aunt Joan on a trip to Hawaii, look super cool by pairing it with simple black accessories, like those killer tasselled loafers.
With her love for all things vintage-inspired, we could totally she Chloe (and you!) in our Blair’s Calling Dress in Blue. This sweet, wool-blend dress in bold teal and navy has a flattering fit-and-flare silhouette.
