Our fascination with the British Royals, seem to have hit another height with the engagement announcement from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Clinical Psychologist Tara Emrani claims that there is a scientific reason as to our obsession – the normalcy of the Royal family creates a bond with the watcher. But are we glorifying becoming a member of the royal family? What we may be omitting is the fact that the beloved actors’ sense of style will change according to royal rules.
Why do we care so much about Markle, and worry for the departure of her infamous style? According to Tara Emrani, a licensed clinical psychologist our fascination with the recent news, which is undeniable, is based on science. From glossies to daily Instagram scrolls, it’s difficult to omit the Markle-mania that has struck society.
According to Emrani, the “normalcy” of the royal family creates an intimate bond between the viewer and subject, resulting in the sense that one knows them. She says “The British royal family has found a way to stay relevant and be present in the media. And the way that they portray the family is very relevant to people in that they have a family, they do normal stuff, they go to normal places, although they’re royal.” This stems from the good old Diana days, which took us to the Kate Middleton era, and has now been rooted in Markle. Not only has this been highlighted with the 20th year of Diana’s death, but is furthermore highlighted by the Netflix Original series the Crown.
Much like Grace Kelly, the California girl will no longer be allowed to work as an actor, she will leave her role in suits for her role as Princess.
She has furthermore shut down her blog “The Tig” in the past few months and has commenced with her charitable endeavors. This is more in line with her royal role. She will also not be able to enjoy playing a part in politics, or monopoly. Moreover, she will not be allowed to dress according to her own standards. Therefore it is only fair to pay tribute to Markle’s sense of style by providing five ways to dress like Meghan Markle.
1. ALL-AMERICAN GIRL
The Northwestern alum is known for her casual, All-American girl appeal. This is a style she might have to pack in for the classic Middleton sweater. A tee like the Tacos, Vodka, Sleep Tee may be frowned upon by Queen Elizabeth, but it the reason why we will miss her sense of style.
Upon her first public appearance with the Prince, Markle was spotted in a burgundy dress and fine leather jacket. If you too, have had the pleasure of meeting a prince, go for the Wine and Dine Dress. In the event that you haven’t run into a prince yet, maybe this will increase your chance.
3. CALIFORNIA GLAM
If your style icon is Prince George, the California Glam look might not be a natural fit, but there’s something about the sophistication of a Markle look that is difficult to ignore. The self-proclaimed California girl is not complete without the Stockport Jacket. The slim silhouette is a fit for every royalty.
4. FUN SILHOUETTES
The future daughter-in-law of Princess Diana is no stranger to the oversized silhouette. From red carpet events to Instagram vacations, the brunette is often spotted in oversized bottoms like the Chrissy Pant. She is furthermore no stranger to the monochrome look, opt for simplicity.
5. SUITS STYLE
The soon to be aunt of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Meghan’s portrayal of Rachel Zane in Suits often hits the screen with a stylish pencil skirt like the Suede Out Skirt. We have hope that her once low-key humanitarian efforts will allow her to rock a fun pencil skirt, once more, and maybe even become a key item in her professional wardrobe. Commonly spotted in a black pencil skirt during her off-screen days, it may be of interest to know that the royals must carry an all-black outfit whilst traveling in the event of a death.
Even though we have to say farewell to the old Meghan Markle, it would be preposterous to think her future wardrobe will not have us drool in awe. With this ode to the future wife of Prince Harry, we wish her the best for what is next to come, and we shall wait in suspense for her royal wardrobe.
